A Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst collects, analyzes, and interprets spatial data to support decision-making, planning, and problem-solving across various sectors such as urban planning, utilities, environmental management, transportation, and public safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gather, manage, and analyze spatial and non-spatial datasets from multiple sources
- Create maps, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate geographic information effectively.
- Maintain and update GIS databases, layers, and metadata.
- Perform spatial analysis (e.g., buffering, overlay, network analysis, spatial statistics).
- Support projects by integrating GIS with other tools (e.g., CAD, GPS, remote sensing, SQL databases).
- Provide technical support, training, and documentation for GIS users.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geomatics, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in GIS data analysis, mapping, or spatial data management.
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise) or open-source platforms (QGIS, PostGIS).
- Experience with databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
- Ability to create interactive web maps and dashboards (ArcGIS Online, Mapbox, Leaflet).
- Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
